…and then I will be done with law school. Forever. It will be amazing. Except for that whole worst economy in years no jobs thing. Oh well, we can’t win them all!

Today I proved to myself exactly why I haven’t become a jet engine mechanic, or something else that requires me to think and plan before I act.

In the process of mounting a cabinet inside my VW camper van, I managed to poke a hole in my gas tank. Don’t let them tell you metal drill bits don’t work. They sure do…

Also, I managed to completely maim my right hand, awkward swelling included. AND to top that off, I had to use a pair of pliers to surgically remove a ring from one of my fingers that was an innocent victim in my home automotive repair shenanigans.

The picture does not do the pain justice. Also, man I have skeletor hands…

Some people say that German Shepherds are very smart dogs.

Sometimes…TOO smart…

Apparently, my dog knows more about forestry law and green timber certification than I do. She should have written my A paper.

I wouldn't go in there if i were you.

I wouldn't go in there if I were you...

After a few days of waiting with baited breath to see whether the weather would turn cold enough to ski on my birthday, I headed out into the wilderness. The wild unknown, okay actually it wasn’t that wild or that unknown, but it was rainy! We went on a birthday hike up in the gorge. Although it was quite wet, it was also kind of magical. There was fog everywhere, and each turn and switchback seemed to drop off into nothingness, save for this river.

Even though my plans to ski were basically foiled by horrible weather, there is this:

Today is a good day for presents.

I think it ups the stoke factor for life in general. This guy’s photography makes me want to quit what I’m doing and go do something more awesome. I think it would also make great christmas presents.

Here’s a list of things that are both horrible and awesome in honor of my needing to be more positive about things. I have been told recently that I’m really fantastic at picking out the bad aspects of everything in life so I’m trying to take some not so ideal situations and see the silver lining.

1. This morning, one of the dogs knocked my coffee over onto the cream colored carpet. On the up side, I used the steam cleaner. The steam cleaner is magical to use and the stain is completely gone.

2. I barely have enough money to pay rent this month. On the up side, I totally have a new pair of boards. Yay!

3. It might be bad weather for skiing this weekend, but then I’ll get to go see Galactic on Saturday.

4. Sugar punched me in the neck but I have a totally bad ass claw mark that makes me look like I got into a fight with a wolverine (or at least it feels like I got into a fight with one).

5. The election is tomorrow, on the up side the election is tomorrow!

Today is Monday, November 3, 2008, only ONE more day before the election is over. Thank god. I know you must all be so excited to vote and make a difference. I just have one request. After the election is over please stop talking about it. I am in the unfortunate situation of living in a super liberal city with super “active” people who stop me on the street every time I walk to the grocery store or go to get coffee, or basically go anywhere, to ask me if I’m registered to vote, if I want to give money to save the children, whales, environment, salmon, energy… whatever. I suppose I have let my apathy about my own life seep into everything else but I’m pretty certain that eventually we will go extinct and none of this will matter anyway. So, although I’m very excited to see a person of color in office Its not exactly change I can believe in. Change I can believe in might be….a socialist revolution for example, or a meteor decimating half the population of the earth but at the end of the day, when we’re patting ourselves on the back for being so progressive, we’re still stuck with the same two (or arguably one) party political system.

okay so maybe i’m prone to hyperbole

In other news, I’ve managed to buy a surf board. I dont know when or how I suddenly garnered the ability to support my stupid habbit of buying expensive outdoor toys, but aparently I could afford a surfboard. Unfortunately this weekend I’m being a saint and accompanying a friend to a wedding so I wont be using it. More on that later.

But for now, seriously

Not much else to say except that I’ll be out at the beach this Saturday and probably next weekend too. I’m excited to be getting better even though I still probably look like a complete fool. In the meantime though here are some pictures of what I hope to do eventually (minus the whole being a white girl part).

For the record, that’s Mary Osborne, longboard champ.
